Dr. K. Ramkumar is a Consultant Surgeon in Surgical Gastroenterology and Laparoscopy. He started his career at the Madras Medical College & Govt General Hospital, Chennai and completed his M.B.B.S., in 1991. He then moved to the Stanley Medical College Hospital, Chennai and commenced his postgraduate surgical training. He acquired his Masters degree in Surgery M.S., (General Surgery) in 1995. He left to the United Kingdom for higher specialist surgical training in 1996.
He continued his initial higher surgical training in the South East Thames region in England. He was awarded the Fellowship, FRCS (Edinburgh) by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK in 1997 and also the Fellowship, FRCS (Glasgow) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, UK in 1998. He was appointed as a Specialist Registrar in General / Upper GI Surgery by the UK Higher Surgical Training Committee and given a UK National Training number in 2000.
Dr. K. Ramkumar specialised in Upper GI and Hepato Pancreato Biliary (HPB) Surgery and trained in University hospitals with eminent surgeons in various academic units in the UK. During this period he was awarded the Fellowship, FRCS (Gen Surgery) conferred by the UK Intercollegiate Board in 2005. He completed his higher surgical training and was awarded the UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) and gained entry in the UK General Medical Council Specialist Register in 2007.
During his period in the UK, he worked in high volume centres of excellence, performing large numbers of specialised Oesophago-gastric surgery including cancer, complex benign Oesophago-gastric surgery, Hepato Pancreato Biliary (HPB) Surgery and therapeutic endoscopy. He acquired further skills by completing Fellowship in Hepato Pancreato Biliary Surgery & Liver Transplantation (Birmingham, UK) and also Fellowship in Laparoscopic Upper GI Surgery (Guildford, UK) & Bariatric Surgery (Luton, UK).
He periodically updates his knowledge and experience and keeps in touch with the recent developments and advances in the same field. He is involved in clinical research and has published papers in the peer reviewed international journals and also presented his research in national and international meetings. He holds membership of good standing in various national and international professional organizations. He is a fully registered medical practitioner with specialist registration with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council, India.
